Recreation and Medication NOT Incarceration

By: Zachariah Mayfarth

Each year, Texas takes the freedom of over 60,000 people for having  a plant,  That plant has a name. Say it with me. Cannabis.  As Texans we love our freedoms. We can walk down any street with a rifle or a katana sword and not be afraid, yet, have one nugget of cannabis and the K-9 Unit in HEB will get you incarcerated.

This juxtaposition of deadly weapons being overlooked and a plant that has NEVER killed anyone is stunning.  For the Lone Star State “Loving Freedom”, John Law seems to hate people exercising a constitutional right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

In a statement to The Texas Tribune, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick spokesperson Alejandro Garcia said the lieutenant governor is “strongly opposed to weakening any laws against marijuana [and] remains wary of the various medicinal use proposals that could become a vehicle for expanding access to this drug.”

While Lawmakers and Enforcers continue to deny cannabis has medicinal value, I want to take a moment to discuss the medicinal applications of THC free CBD and share my experience with you all.

Not all CBD products are the same.  Some are “full spectrum” which contain 0.3% THC, which others are CBD Isolates which contain ZERO THC.   I use the CBD Isolate due to circumstances beyond my control (Probation), but, allow me to take a bit of your time to tell you about me.

Adversity and non-tradition are the prominent stimuli in my life.  As I was born three months premature I have a permanent brain injury.  This injury caused cerebral palsy and partial blindness. After 28 years of Cerebral Palsy ravaging my muscles and spine I need a fusion on the bottom two discs in my spine.  Following the surgery I was put on THC Medical Marijuana (as I lived in Minnesota where it’s legal). This was my first experience with the plant concentrate and it allowed me to recover from surgery faster and walk better than I ever had. I found a freedom with my body I thought I would never have.  Through Divorce I wound up back home to Texas. I love my State but hate the laws and by extension the enforcement of cannabis prohibition.

As a result of my terms of probation, and the prohibition on “Marihuana” I of forced to use ZERO THC CBD, which does help with some of my ailments, but is a drop compared to the river that THC is for my broken by.

I hope that I have left you with a few thinking strands and welcome any comments.  AND LEGALIZE IT!!!
